The Story The LA Aztecs: the New York Cosmos of the west coast. Or at least that’s what the owners hoped the club might become. There were star-studded connections through part-owner Elton John and the famous players like George Best and Johan Cruyff. The team found immediate success, averaging almost twice as many spectators as the league average, played in the first nationally televised game in the U.S., and won the NASL championship in their debut season.
