History: When Yankees rookie Mickey Mantle (#20) was sent down to Kansas City after a disappointing start, he considered giving up and quitting baseball. His father told him that if he was going to be a quitter, he would drive him home to Oklahoma right then and there. The tough love worked, and Mantle soon turned it around.

History: New York had its Subway Series. The Twin Cities - with two clubs in the American Association for six decades - had the Streetcar Series, as the Saints faced off innumerable times against the Minneapolis Millers. The Saints played in cozy Lexington Park for most of their tenure, and the great Twin Cities baseball rivalry only ended in 1961, when the Washington Senators came to town and were newly-christened the Minnesota Twins.

History: As the Double-A affiliate for the New York Giants, the ‘51 Millers began the season with a star young centerfielder named Willie Mays (#8). In only 35 games, Mays became so popular in Minneapolis that when the Giants called him up to the Major Leagues, the club took out ads in the local Minneapolis newspaper apologizing to local fans for taking away their young phenom, who would go on to win the 1951 National League Rookie of the Year.
