History: The original Metropolitans won the Eastern Association crown in 1881. The next season they moved to the two-team League Alliance, along with the Philadelphia Phillies. The club was admitted to the American Association in 1883 but could not compete with the rival Giants. By the early 1900s, they were an independent club. No number on back.
