History: After being banned from professional baseball for his alleged role in throwing the 1919 World Series as a member of the Chicago White Sox, Shoeless Joe Jackson played semi-pro ball for decades in South Carolina, often under a fake name. Jackson was 45 years old when he played the 1932 season in Greenville, which is also where he died in 1951.
