History: Representing Charlotte, North Carolina, in the South Atlantic League, the Hornets were a Class A affiliate of the Washington Senators, and in finished second in the league in ‘56 behind the Jacksonville Braves. Most notably, the ‘56 Hornets featured a 20-year-old star named Harmon Killebrew, who anchored the lineup that summer with a.325 batting average and 15 home runs. Killebrew would later go on to a Hall of Fame career with the Minnesota Twins.
